UofE: Structural Analysis Project
At the University of Edinburgh, I completed a structural analysis project that analyzed the structural integrity of a bridge design. We utilized Oasy's GSA software (General Structural Analysis) to produce deflection, moment, and shear diagrams with various design iterations.
Design Objective
The goal of this project was to determine the most effective design for a relatively simple arch-cable-deck bridge. The following constraints were given in our problem statement:
-
32m in length (concrete slab, 2m width x 2m depth)
-
pinned at both ends
-
Arch made of steel circular tube, E=200 GPa
-
Tension cables 30mm in diameter, E = 200 GPa
-
Dead load of 50 kN/m, live load of 40 kN/m

My task was to experiment with the arch shape and height in order to develop a safe and efficient model.
